Summary: Brief Nine collects minimal data. If you use the service without signing in, your preferences are stored locally. If you sign in with Google, we store your email and profile information to sync your preferences across devices.
Information We Collect
Without Sign-In (Anonymous Use)
If you use Brief Nine without signing in:
- Local preferences. Your likes, dislikes, and blocked items are stored in your browser's local storage and a cookie on your device.
- Anonymous user ID. A randomly generated ID stored in a cookie to associate your preferences. This ID contains no personal information.
- Anonymous analytics. We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly service that doesn't use cookies, doesn't track individuals, and is GDPR compliant.
With Google Sign-In
If you choose to sign in with Google, we collect and store:
- Email address. Used to identify your account and potentially for service communications.
- Name. Your display name from your Google profile.
- Profile picture URL. Used to display your avatar in the interface.
- Google user ID. A unique identifier from Google to link your account.
- Your preferences. Likes, dislikes, blocked items, and reading history are stored on our servers linked to your account.
Note: By signing in with Google, you consent to us storing the above information. This data is used solely to provide the Brief Nine service and sync your preferences across devices. We do not sell this data or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
How We Use Your Information

What We Don't Do

- Google Sign-In. For authentication. Google's privacy policy applies to their service.
- Plausible Analytics. Privacy-friendly, GDPR-compliant analytics.
- News sources. When you click on a story, you visit the original publisher's website with its own privacy policy.

Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
